Bird watching and Central Mongolia tour
Mongolia is home to over 400 species of birds. Mongolia has a rich composition of bird species due to the migration routes from the Pacific and Indian Oceans to the Mediterranean Sea and to the Arctic Ocean and northern tundra. The best seasons to visit are the migration times.
-In the Gobi, you may see the desert warbler, Great bustard, saxaul sparrow, sand goose, finch, cinereous vulture, and many more.
– In the steppes: the Grey demoiselle crane, a variety of hoopoes, odd eagle, vulture, upland buzzard, steppe eagle, variety of falcons including saker falcon, black kite, and variety of owls and hawks. In the mountains: ptarmigan, finch, woodpecker, owl, Lammergeyers, Altai snowcock.
– In the Lakes: The bird watcher should travel to the wetland in the south of the lake to watch the endangered species of birds such as Dalmatian Pelican, Swan Goose, Baikal Teal, Palla’s Fish Eagle, Lesser Kestrel, Siberian Crane, Great Bustard, and Relict Gull.
Among the most popular places for the above-mentioned birds in Mongolia are Ugii Lake, Orkhon waterfall, and Hugnu khan National park. These areas are the best spot to see forests, steppe, and water birds.
Trip itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to hotel.
City tour and first discovered the town by visiting the National Museum of history and the museum of Chinggis Khan. These museums explain to us the history of the country and its religion. Overnight at the hotel in central Ulaanbaatar city. +D
Day 2: After breakfast visit the “Gandan” Buddhist monastery is the biggest in Mongolia. Begin the journey to Chinggis Khan Statue. /60 km/
The equestrian statue of Chinggis Khan was built in 2008 on the occasion of the eight-hundredth anniversary of the foundation of the Mongolian Empire, in honor of its founder, Chinggis Khan. This huge stainless steel statue weighs 250 tons and is 40 meters (131 feet) high; it’s the highest statue representing a man on horseback in the world. It’s located 54 kilometers (33,55 miles) from Ulan Bator, on the banks of the Tuul River, in the place called Tsonjin Boldog.

Day 3: After breakfast continues drive to Khustai National Park. /200 km/
It’s a great place for birds of prey too, with Cinereous Vultures, Golden Eagles, Saker Falcons, and Upland Buzzard, and all amidst beautiful wild landscapes. You will see the wild Takhi- Przewalski horses. They have lived peacefully since 1993 when they were reintroduced to their native land. Here are able to see and photograph these beautiful animals and bird watching. Overnight at the Ger Camp. B+L+D
Day 4: After breakfast drive to Ugii lake. /200 km/
Swan Goose, White Spoonbill, and Dalmatian Pelican have been recorded. You will see the beautiful nature on the way; it’s a wonderful place for bird life – cranes and ducks. Swimming, rest. Overnight at the Tourist Ger camp. B+L+D
Day 5: After breakfast continues drive to Kharakhorum – the ancient capital of Mongolia. /100km/ Visit Erdene Zuu monastery is the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Overnight at the Ger camp. Visit nomadic family and bird watching around the Orkhon river.
Day 6: Continue drive to Orkhon Waterfall. You will enjoy the natural beauty and bird watching.
Visit a herders family to see the making of airag (the Mongolian national drink of fermented mare’s milk). Overnight at the Ger camp. B+L+D
Day 7: Free hike in Orkhon river area. Rest on the bank of the river, horse riding, walking, relaxing, and bird watching. Overnight at the tourist Ger camp. B+L+D
Day 8: Early in the morning drive to Elsen Tasarkhai. You will see Elsen Tasarhai the part of the Great Mongolian Sand dunes. The scenery is a perfect combination of desert, picturesque mountains, a small river, and green grassland.
