Frequently Asked Questions

What are the chances of seeing a snow leopard?

There is no definitive answer, as sightings of snow leopards are relatively rare and unpredictable. However, if you’re planning a trip to Mongolia, your chances of seeing a Snow Leopard are probably higher than if you were going elsewhere. This is because Mongolia is home to a large portion of the global snow leopard population. So, while there are no guarantees, your odds are certainly better in Mongolia than in most other places.

What makes a snow leopard special?

The snow leopard is a beautiful and majestic creature that inhabits the mountains of central Asia. Though they are apex predators, their populations have been in decline due to habitat loss and persecution by humans. They are often called the “ghosts of the mountain” because they are so rarely seen and spend most of their lives in solitude.

Are snow leopards friendly to humans?

Snow leopards are not aggressive towards humans. The only time a snow leopard might show aggression towards a human is if it feels threatened or its cubs are in danger. In general, snow leopards are shy and reclusive animals that avoid contact with humans whenever possible. There has never been a verified snow leopard attack on a human being. Even if disturbed while feeding, a snow leopard is more likely to run away than try to defend the site.
